The annual BSEPS Rally held at Old Warden in Bedfordshire has for a long time now been the premier event in the East of England. Sadly this years show was hampered by overcast and gloomy weather coupled with a large portion of rain on Friday evening. This may have curtailed engine movements for Saturday but didn’t detract overly from a thoroughly enjoyable weekend

Much work has been undertaken over the past couple of years in revamping the fairground area. Gone are the modern rides and music, replaced with rides more in keeping with an old time fun fair. An impressive line up of showmans engines were present to generate light and electricity for the rides with Foster Showmans ‘Victorious’ impressing whilst powering the Skid

As there was no theme this year the area outside the front of Shuttleworth House was reserved for members projects. Inside the marquee were two 6” models, one a Foden wagon and the other a Fowler Road Locomotive currently under construction by Duncan Sanders for Ted Saunders. Outside the marquee was Tom Smiths Scammell Highwayman part way through its restoration

Returning to the steam exhibits engines were quite literally everywhere and a mighty line up of road locomotives included Foden ‘Monarch, McLarens ‘Boadecia’ and ‘Mr Tweedie’ Burrells ‘His Majesty’, ‘Badger’ and ‘Dorothy’ amongst many others
