Whittlesford Video Show
2005
By Robert Pumfrey
Around 85 members and friends ignored warnings of heavy snowfall to
attend the 22nd Annual "Great Chesterford Film Show" which was held at
Whittlesford Memorial Hall on Saturday 19th February. This hall is proving
a popular venue, being our fourth visit since the demise of Great Chesterford
Village Hall in 2001.
The EATES has also booked the Whittlesford Memorial Hall for its 50th
Anniversary Dinner on October 22nd 2005, contact Maureen on 01799 530246
for your tickets!! Those attending the show were treated to video's old
and new, starting with the first steam rally held at Saling Airfield in
1955, followed by the 25th anniversary Saling Rally of 1980. Also an early
Norfolk rally held at Woodton in 1968.
Clips followed these from last year's events including the Great Dorset
Steam Fair and the National Traction Engine Trust's 50th anniversary Road
Run.
Humour was provided from a DVD of an early BBC "Allo Allo" episode
featuring Richard Parrott's engines and a Steam Roller versus a German
Staff car stunt.
A "hot off the press" video of Michael Pumfrey performing in his local
village pantomime, as fairy "Stinkerbelle" also caused much laughter.
Members Sally Wright and John Ridgeway had their new board game on
show. It's called "Road Run", and is rather like Monopoly with steam engines.
At Whittlesford we always have a selection of photographs on display;
this year being our 50th Anniversary, thanks to Pat Freeman and John Meredith,
we had pictures of ALL the traction engines that attended the first rally
50 years ago on show.
A big thank you to my wife, Maureen for providing the refreshments;
Adie Culpin for manning the bar, and Michael Pumfrey for selecting and
presenting the video's.
Thank you also to all the members who supplied the wonderful raffle
prizes and Carol Lewis for selling the draw tickets.
All had a good time, and we look forward to next years show.
Below are pictures of Michael Pumfrey as "Stinkerbelle" in Peter Pandemonium
2005 and EATES ex-President and Life Member, Arthur Clarke, with his Garrett
Traction Engine "Felsted Belle" at Saling Rally 1955.
