Driver Training
by Michael Pumfrey

In conjunction with the Museum of East Anglian Life’s "Steam at Stowmarket"
The Students. Click to enlarge.event, the Society held its third Driver Training Weekend on the 13th & 14th August 2005. Twenty-eight students took part, receiving both instruction on engines and lectures on subjects such as boiler inspection etc.
Among a range of all types of engine provided for students were the Museum’s own Burrell Traction Engine Empress of Britain, Richard Parrott’s Burrell Spitfire, Alan Hines’ Ruston Jack, the Philp Family’s Fowler Sir Douglas and Keith Honour’s Burrell Margaret. Chris Brighty roaded his Aveling Roller Emerald Rose all the way from Gt Bradley near Haverhill to attend.

On Saturday night there was a 50th Anniversary Party for the Society, held
in the Museum’s 13th Century Tithe Barn.  A bar, live entertainment and a
hot meal were provided, and a good time was had by all…
