Harvest Past 2005
by Pat Freeman

On August 21st, the third 'Harvest Past' event was held at Theberton, Suffolk. It was organised by Richard White, his family and friends and took place on one of the large fields of his Peakhill Farm and on an adjacent field, by courtesy of Andrew and Peter Haste.
The event consisted mainly of heavy horse and vintage tractor ploughing and cultivating which was carried out on the Haste's field, as was the combining of winter wheat.
However, there was one steam event - a demonstration of threshing as would have been carried out in 'Harvest Past'.
A 1910 Burrell Traction Engine, No. 3249, owned by Bill Kemball of Wantisden, Suffolk, was driving a 1951 Ransomes Drum and 1947 Bailer. These two latter pieces of agricultural equipment belong to Edgar Collyer of Bungay, Suffolk, who had them from new and still uses them commercially for preparing straw for thatching.

EATEC member Trevor Wrench was on hand to see that the Burrell performance was up to scratch and Edgar Collyer was looking after his drum and bailer. Both of them and their helpers must have been very pleased to see the number of people watching the demonstration.
Money raised at the event will be shared between the Suffolk Punch Horse Society and the Suffolk Air Ambulance.
