Euston Park Rural Pastimes
June 12th 2005

This annual event was held by kind permission of the Duke of Grafton and, as seems usual, it was dominated by classic cars (about 200), vintage tractors (about 130) and stationary engines (about 70).
There were, however, four full-size steam engines in operation and a particular public attraction was the 1920 Ruston & Hornsby Traction Engine Oliver, No. 113043, owned by  Jonathan Wheeler of South Lopham, Norfolk, vice-chairman  of EATES. It was driving  a circular saw bench, as it had done when new.
There were also several scale-models in steam, including Lil' Ol' Nick, a 6" exact replica of the 1908 Marshall Agricultural Steam Traction Engine Old Nick, No. 49725, which was also there. Both are owned by Ernie Eagle of Holton St. Mary, Colchester, Essex.
