Annual Dinner and Dance
2007
by Michael Pumfrey
This year’s Society Dinner Dance on October 29th was again held at Whittlesford
Memorial Hall near Cambridge. 101 members and friends sat down to an excellent
meal provided by Poppies Catering. New for this year was the opportunity
for guests to participate in a colouring-in competition, resulting in some
interesting artwork to be found elsewhere in this magazine…
Our Guest speaker was Boz Oram, as featured (looking rather
worse for wear) on the Steve Neville DVD. Boz spoke about some of the trips
he organises under the banner "History in Harmony".
El Presidente Robert Pumfrey had arranged to present some of the Society
trophies at the dinner – to our outgoing Chairman, Sue Doncaster, to John
Hunt for organising the Steam Working Weekend at The Bell in May and to
Ian Morrison for reviving the Saffron Walden Road Run. In addition to these
the roller cup went to Trevor Ellis and the model cup to Tim Clarke.
Music was once again provided by "The 6T’s", while those
of us not suited to dancing made use of the Bar, provided by The Plough
at Great Chesterford, and looked at the photos on display in the Millenium
Room opposite the main hall.
Everybody had a good time and thanks must be expressed
to Maureen Pumfrey for the massive amount of work she puts into the event
each year.
