Introduction
The
idea of the event grew from a discussion between the late Roy Swain and
our current club chairman Kevin Swann. From that it was converted into
practical form by the club's sales officer Ken Goward and an increasingly
large team of volunters and willing victims. The run started at mid-day
Friday and finished on Monday afternoon with most of the engines managing
to complete the course - although with the occasional helping hand from
more modern technology.
As
well as providing an excuse for engine owners and others to spend four
days touring around the East Anglian countryside the decision was made
to try and raise money for charity as well. The chosen charity was Macmillan
Cancer Relief as a mark of respect to our late president Steve Neville
and the nurses who looked after him during his long final illness. In this
respect as well the event was a major success with a cheque for £2,300
being handed over to the charity at the launch of 'Heavy Metal' the official
video of the Road Run.
